A responsible buinessman:

I crashed into a blue parked truck. It was dented a bit and I estimated that I’d be able to take care of the bill, so I left my phone number on the window because I was working on my job and I couldn’t wait for the truck owner. I just hope he doesn’t call me when I’m in an important meeting.

Racism & Sexism

May 14th, 2008 by shorewoodyoo in Uncategorized · No Comments

1. Why did the author think the U of Chicago test revealed that he was racist?  Is he right?

The author realized that he waits a while before killing whites. He might be right because it’s how the brains work and it took him all his life to figure out that he might be a racist. If he doesn’t treat people differently then he’s not a racist and how his time is different might be because of his eyes since it’s easier to find dark objects than light objects.

2. Do these tests measure “unconscious” racism?  Why do you think so?

I don’t think they measure unconscious because I have bad eyes and I can’t really tell who’s holding what and ethnicity before clicking the button.

3. Why does the author think that sexism may be harder to fight than racism?  What research suggests this?

Sexism takes 50 milliseconds to get to the brain and racism takes 100 million seconds to get to the brain. Since sexism is inserted in the brains it’ll be hard. It’s just part of the nature. Even wild animals have different roles depending on the gender of the animal.

4. Paraphrase this quote: The challenge for women competing in politics or business is less misogyny than unconscious sexism: Americans don’t hate women, but they do frequently stereotype them as warm and friendly, creating a mismatch with the stereotype we hold of leaders as tough and strong.

The challenge for woen is sexism but it’s not sexism because it’s stereotype and we don’t hate them. It’s a bad thing.

What is the real problem women face according to the author?  What do you think?

Women face what men think of them even though a lot of them are opposite of what they think. Those men watched television too much. Even though women have harder life in the political places, people researched on the brains by gender. Women were better in languages and politics and men were better in math and scienc. People should try thinking outside the box instead of never getting out. It’s like a bird in a bird cage; wild birds who got caught try to get out but the ones who were born in the cage don’t even want freedom.

How can this problem be confronted according to the author?  What do you think?

I don’t really get what he’s trying to say but it sounds like think about women C.E.O.s and Clinton.

A Raisin in the Sun

May 13th, 2008 by shorewoodyoo in Uncategorized · No Comments

The old woman wants people to stop being money hogs because people used to be crazy about freedom and now they’re crazy about money. She’s already too late. She also wants to learn about Africa because she doesn’t know much about Africa, but most blacks were born in US, not in Africa. She doesn’t get neither of them and it’s bad because she still doesn’t know what she wants to know about and peoploe stay as money hogs.

Walter only wants money and that’s all he cares about. He used the old woman’s money but loses the money and it’s good because he learned a lesson.

I think Beneatha wants love and money because she had 2 “boyfriends” and they were both rich. She didn’t really get them and her character was very unclear.

DSP & Race Conflicts

May 7th, 2008 by shorewoodyoo in Uncategorized · No Comments

I think most of the stories were funny because they were just random like bank robbing, killing a person, giraffe on steroids, etc. I didn’t have a favorite because I’m not really into movies and I don’t have favorite things for most of the stuff people talk about.

When you think about the conflicts of race in this country and in this school what are your first impressions?

The conflicts of race in the country and school would probably mostly blacks and whites because there is like no black in cheers, drill or flags and there is only 1 or 2 whites in the steps. About 1/3 of all of them are yellows so they don’t really count and about 1/3 of the steps is brown.

Is the experience of living in America very different depending on the color of your skin? How? Why?

It’s different because when you go to a restaurant, most of the workers are from the same country and people usually hire people who are from the same country because there’s higher chance of them having similar experience and experience for the food.

What has your personal experience been in living with/interacting with people of a different race/ethnicity?

In Korea, I didn’t really look Korean especially after sunburn, so I got a lot of attention but there’s a lot of ethnicities here so it doesn’t really matter here.

What do you think the future holds for us in terms of race relations?

I think most people are getting similar skin colors because there are a lot of mixed blood people and there are more race than your own race.

Digital Storytelling

There is a nerd guy and he likes a girl but she isn’t interested in anything other than money, so the guy has to get a lot of money. Somehow, the guy makes a lot of money and gets the girl but he loses interests in her soon because she’s only interested in money. Or the guy never realizes that and he regrets when he’s really really old.

Power

April 23rd, 2008 by shorewoodyoo in Uncategorized · 3 Comments

“Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men.” - Lord Acton
I have to agree with this quote because a lot of people and government are corrupt because they want more power. Governors are always trying to live better, richer and more relaxed life than before and try to change the laws even though it’s going to end when he’s not a governor anymore unless he was smart and tried to change his life after he’s not a governor.

For citizens, it’s the revolutions, including the small ones. People revolt because they have power called “quantity” and they want more power and money. Money = power sometimes and money is one of the reasons too because people can’t live without money but live without power but money is power. It doesn’t make sense and make sense at the same time.

Animals are different. Even though they have leaders and fight to be the leader from time to time, they don’t do it for years. They only fight until one gives up and they don’t do it for a long time or never. It’s probably because they survive, not live. They don’t have free time like people, so they barely have time to fight and that’s better than how the people are doing. If people hunt, fish and farm to live, then there wouldn’t be a lot of fights for power even though there would be some for food.

Law 7 Get others to do Work for you & Take the Credit

April 11th, 2008 by shorewoodyoo in Uncategorized · No Comments

I don’t think it’s a good idea to get others to do work & take the credit because a lot of people suck at a lot of stuff. I’d rather do the work by myself even if it takes a long time and take the credit if it’s good and pretend I didn’t do it if it sucks. I think it’s easier and better that way, but some people follows it all the time.

If someone follows this law and the worker says that it wasn’t him who worked but the workers, he would be embarrassed and lose credit from people. It’s just easier to do everything by myself and take the credit or don’t take the credit than relying on other to do the work to take the credit. It’s like little kids giving garlic or something harmful to dogs and saying “I ate them all!” because there are a lot of food that can kill dogs easily. If the dog dies, it’ll be bad.
